Cold War

The Site that you gave a lot of exposure to the culture and how people lived during the Cold War.  There was a lot of film that showed the one-sided stories of their victories, basically propaganda. This propaganda certainly got the attention of the two sides. This site also shows some of the other culture of the two sides. There was a lot of fashion in the United States.  There was a lot of movies that showed safety precautions such as how to duck and cover, which was a method that was taught to kids if an atomic bomb ever exploded in the United States.

CNN shows that there was a race to get into space or to send satellites to space. The Russians shocked the world with the sputnik satellite that was launched. There was also A race to get to the moon. The United States was trying to get an actual plane to get to the moon but that never worked out. We did eventually get to the moon but that was much later. The site shows that the 50s were a time of inventions. There was an invention for just about anything.

There was a lot of espionage during the 50s. One example would be the fact that scientists found out that smoking was a hazard and could lead to cancer. This brought the sales in tobacco down, but they eventually came back because of good advertisements. There were thoughts that there could be soviet spies involved inside the United States. There were double agents apparently everywhere. The invisible war was also in the 50s.

The cold was all about having the atom bombs. It was an arms race to all of the world. The soviets and the United States went on building nuclear weapons seeing who could get the most bombs. The whole United States was trying to get prepared for the nuclear age by teaching the kids how to Duck and Cover. This was actually a technique used to apparently protect yourself from a bomb that could blow the whole world up.  It is actually funny that people could be saved from this movement.
